It's only been four years since I left Concept 7, but it seems like such a long time ago. I really miss you and the people at Concept 7. You all helped me so much during my six years with you. I never told you this but what you and Concept 7 did so that I could have reconstructive surgery on my jaw meant everything in the the world to me. It changed my life completely... Here in this cold country where everything seems so unreal, I think of you often and the warm memories of growing up in your home...

Being a foster child for what seems like most of my youth wasn't always easy. But we had many problems in my family and I didn't really have a choice. I have to admit while at Concept 7 I really learned a lot about myself and how important it is to make personal changes so my children don't have to go through what I went through with my parents.

Becky's Dream

I guess I started thinking about it the last time the police came to our house to take my little brother and me to the foster home. One of the police officers was a woman. I remember thinking how sharp she looked in her uniform and how nice she was on the ride to the foster home. All I could think of was, boy her parents are really proud of her and what she has accomplished and she's so young. She told me about the police explorers and what I would have to do to become one. From that point on I knew I wanted to become a police officer.

Since then Concept 7 and some very nice people have helped to pay the cost for uniforms, equipment, and special classes I have taken my last two years of high school. If everything goes okay I will start taking police science courses this fall at the local junior college. I am so excited and I know that I would not have been able to do this without the support of my mom and dad (foster parents) and the financial assistance from Concept 7.

I have just turned 18 and I guess I'm no longer technically a foster child but, after five wonderful years with family, this is my home and I intend to finish my schooling here. Who knows maybe someday soon they will tell me how proud they are of me and what I've accomplished.

Becky P,
18 years old

Before entering Concept 7, things did not always look very promising for me. I knew I wanted to go to college but I didn't know if I would get the money to get started until I could get a part time job. Thanks to my Concept 7 social worker, Cindy, I was able to apply for and receive a Concept 7 college scholarship, which paid for my first year of tuition and books. I will always be grateful to Concept 7 for helping me at a time when I needed it most.

It's been seven years since I graduated from high school and became emancipated from Concept 7. But I still maintain close contact with my foster mother and social worker. If it hadn't been for those two people, I'm not sure where I would be today. They simply refused to let me fail. Now, I am happily married and working in the same profession as my very proud foster mother - Nursing.
