Concept 7 is a foster care agency which serves over 1500 families and children each year in need of prevention, support, early intervention or placement services.

Our Mission: The mission of Concept 7 is to ease the suffering of abused and neglected children by providing a continuum of family-centered treatment and support-related programs. This includes early intervention with at-risk families as well as foster care for children who require out-of-home placement

History:
Established in 1973 as a group home organization to care for abused and neglected children. Expanded in 1986 to recruit, support and educate foster families for the nurturing, growth and development of the children in their care; to provide professional case management and clinical services to children placed in foster homes.

Current Programs: Recruitment and placement of children in foster family homes; case management by social workers; psychological services by licensed therapists; preventive & clinical services, in-home intensive care services, monitored visitation.

Population Served: Approximately 1500 served annually, including approximately 700 foster children, who range in age from babies to teenagers. Our children come from all over Southern California and represent a wide range of ethnicities. The average length of stay is 192 days, or a little over 6 months. The range is approximately 3 days to 3 years, with some children staying until they complete high school or are adopted by their foster parents.

Goal: To reunite the children with their birth families where possible, and if not, to provide a long-term, stable environment for the children.

Seven Concepts:

  1. Rescue - from a life of abuse and neglect
  2. Recognition - that the child is indeed valued as a person
  3. Relationship - the ability of the child to embrace and nurture
relationships with peers, siblings and adults
  4. Responsibility - Learning to take responsibility for behavior without fearing drastic consequences
  5. Respect - Feeling of self-respect and self-esteem, with respect
for rules, others and society as a whole
  6. Resolution - Resolution of the pain and suffering of the past,
without which a child can never heal
  7. Renewal - Building blocks strengthen as time goes by, and
the child comes to know the renewing energy of love, care, compassion and hope

Fact : Every day close to 1400 children in the United States are placed in foster care. That's over 510,000 per year.
